The Many Ways to Solve a Crime: Forensic Innovations Throughout the Field

From crime scenes to courtrooms, forensic investigations can sometimes be solved from the smallest piece of evidence. Robert Genna, former Director of the Suffolk County Crime Laboratory, has conducted trace evidence analysis in areas such as paint and glass fragments, and shoe and tire track impression evidence to help solve hundreds of cases throughout Long Island.

Modern investigations rely on a rapidly expanding toolbox of scientific and technological breakthroughs. From advances in DNA analysis and digital forensics to cutting-edge crime scene reconstruction and data analytics, this panel examines how investigators across disciplines are transforming the way crimes are solved. From real-world examples and behind the scenes insights, Genna will explore how new forensic techniques are helping crack both current and cold cases, strengthening prosecutions, and uncovering truths that once seemed impossible to prove. Demonstrating that in today’s world solving a crime can come from many different directions, and sometimes from the most unbelievable sources.
